Kindness Day is a day to celebrate, promote kindness in all its forms and unite people in kindness globally.
Today is the day for the celebration of kindness in society and day to day life. People will be filling the world with individual acts of kindness all day long – but this has me thinking: why don't people make every day kindness day?
Great examples of acts of kindness happen every day across the globe and are recognised in the media, proving that such acts of kindness have a positive impact on people's lives.
We should all thank the people who have saved many lives this year. We have had acts of terrorism, natural disasters, Grenfell Tower... the list goes on. But for each of these incidents, kindness and support has always prevailed.
Huffington Post wrote a great article about the benefits of being kind '6 Ways Being Nice To Others Is Actually Good For You'.
There is so much truth it what this article says. When you witness acts of kindness it restores people's faith in humanity and causes them to reflect on their own behaviours. Knowing that those people took the time and effort to say or do something they didn't have to, is special. We are all so busy in our day to day lives that I think we sometimes forget to make time for other people.
From the men who have lost and continue to lose their lives in war, to people who help others through illness, nurses, teachers, carers, fire service, police, friends, family, co-workers, homeless, lovers, strangers..... we should all reflect and make a conscious effort to be kind. When people unite, it brings together a powerful community of love and peace!
One thought that should be considered by all, is our wonderful planet. As highlighted by Sir David Attenborough's Blue Planet II, our planet is under severe pressure from human activity and our nature is dying as a result. So simple changes in the way we live our lives can make a huge difference.
So here's a question for you... What will your act of kindness be?
